With a quartet of impressive wins, the West Genesee softball team built its mark to 10-1, one of the best starts in the program’s history. Steady offensive work helped characterize the Wildcats’ trip to Henninger last Monday that saw WG beat the Black Knights 10-1. Rallies in the first two innings gave the Wildcats a quick 5-0 lead, but it added runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings just to be sure. On the mound, Ashley Amidon allowed four hits in her latest complete-game effort. Mackeznie Glynn finished with three RBIs, including a double, while Kailey Ritch smacked a home run and triple, and joined Sarah Donegan as they each drove in two runs. Jacki Bovay also doubled. WG got even more productive in Tuesday’s rain and gloom, tearing up Corcoran in a 19-4 romp over the Cougars. It was 2-2 when, in the top of the second inning, the Wildcats batted around and finished with nine runs, and it tacked on a six-run sixth inning, too. Gabby Lustrinelli got a turn on the mound and pitched a complete game. She also drove in a run as Christina Sakran earned two RBIs. Glynn and Donegan had one RBI apiece. Now the Wildcats took its show to Auburn, where Amidon again excelled as the Wildcats blanked the Maroons 9-0. Throwing a one-hitter, Amidon waited for her teammates to start hitting. A modest 2-0 lead in the early going was nice, but WG took charge by scoring three times in the fifth inning and four times in the top of the sixth. In all, the Wildcats had 14 hits, including Bovay’s double as she finished with three RBIs. Deanna Apps drove in two runs, while Glynn, Lustrinelli and Trish Andrews each picked up one RBI. WG played for the fourth time in as many days on Thursday and again found the win column, beating Central Square 7-3. With the game still 0-0, the Wildcats got to Red Hawks pitcher Marie Steding for five runs in the bottom of the third inning, then add a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-0. Ritch and Lexie Myers would both triple and earn two RBIs as Glynn, Lustrineli and Chelsea Sedlacek also drove in runs. All this game Amidon lots of room as she pitched her second one-hitter of the week, only getting hit when some errors led to all of Central Square’s runs in the top of the seventh. This all led to Tuesday’s showdown between WG and Liverpool, who is ranked in the state Class AA top 10 with a 13-1 record, plus a visit to Oswego later this week.
