With April nearing its end, it was time for the Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse team to bring out its best stuff. Or at least the Red Rams did so in last Tuesday’s short road trip to East Syracuse-Minoa, doing close to everything right in a 15-3 romp over the Spartans. With a 4-4 record, ESM was far from an easy mark, especially at home. Yet J-D shut them out in a 3-0 first quarter, then doubled its production in the second period while moving the margin to 9-1 and all but settling things before halftime. Jeff Sciera ignored the wind and rain to post five goals and one assist. Eric DeJohn, with four goals, and Joe Shepard, with three goals, were close behind. Cam Stone and Colin Short both had two assists as Jake Bratek joined Short with single goals. Tim Edwards also had an assist. Aside from Mike Cummings, who scored twice and assisted on Quadear Mike’s tally, ESM could not produce much. Matt Letcher and Chris Russo combined for nine saves. From there, the Red Rams went to Cortland on Thursday night and looked just as good in taking apart the Purple Tigers 19-7. A steady, relentless attack produced five goals in the first, second and third quarters, as J-D worked its way to a 15-7 edge while showing, again, that it had multiple options. DeJohn, with five goals, and Sciera, with four goals, set the pace, but Bratek, Stone and Rob Elbers each found the net twice, with Short getting four assists and Stone adding three assists. Keehfus also had three assists as he, along with Robby Wengert, Pete Goss and Joe Esposito, earned one goal apiece. J-D made it nine wins in 10 games on Saturday afternoon, defending its home field in an emphatic 18-6 victory over Watertown. The Rams took a while to get going, but from a 3-1 margin, it used seven goals in the second quarter to pull clear, then blanked the Cyclones 6-0 in the third period. Somehow improving as the week went along, DeJohn finished with seven goals, adding two assists, while Bratek earned four goals and three assists. Stone had five assists to go with his lone tally, while Short earned two goals. Keehfus picked up a goal and three assists as Edwards, Shepard and Elbers also converted. The Spartans were quickly back in winning form on Thursday, ripping Chittenango 12-5. A steady defensive effort limited the Bears to a single goal in each of the first three periods, ample time for ESM to take chare. More specifically, Cummings took over, his six goals more than the entire Bears roster, often fed by Garrett Smith and James Chayka, each of whom had three assists. Andrew Raymond scored twice as Smith, Mike, Marc Sacco and Tom Petterelli each had one goal.
