Two unique win streaks remained intact as the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field teams swept through West Genesee last Wednesday afternoon. The girls Northstars were at home against the Wildcats at Bragman Stadium, relying on its domination of field events to prevail by a score of 98-43 and get its 43rd straight league win. Jasmine Thompson, who ran the 100-meter high hurdles in a top time of 15.9 seconds, claimed the high jump by clearing 5 feet 4 inches and went 16 feet 1 1/2 inches to win the long jump. Elsewhere, Valerie Langevin threw the discus 115 feet 9 inches and Casey Wilmer tossed the shot put 32 feet 6 inches. Gina Campagna cleared 7 feet 6 inches in the pole vault and Alana Hotchkiss earned first in the triple jump, going 33 feet 6 inches. Wins proved more elusive in field events, since WG’s Katie Bott (400 meters, 400 hurdles, 200 meters) and Carly Graham (800 meters, 1,500 meters) won five times between them. Still, Schuyler Cary took the 3,000-meter run in 11:31.4. Also, CNS swept the 4×100 (53.7 seconds), 4×400 (4:24.3) and 4×800 (10:05.0) relays as Gina Campagna, Nicole Campagna, Brooke Binion, Katie Kennedy, Katie Laris, Samantha Harvey, Jessica Wheeler, Sarah Dean, Nicole Gilette, Marissa Colburn and Nicole Watterud all helped out. To the south and west, The CNS boys team went to Camillus and made it 20 straight league wins by handling West Genesee 93-48. Alex Neumeister won a classic 400 hurdles duel with WG’s Jon Richardson, 58.4 to 58.7 seconds, and also teamed with Brandon Marlow, Jake Whritenour and Mike Fiume to win the 4×400 relay in 3:42.5. Chris Buchanan needed 10:24.8 to prevail at 3,200 meters, long after Whirtenour, Carl Perkins, Jared Walther and Nick Dunbar tore through the 4×800 relay in 8:22.8. Fiume tore through the 400-meter dash in 51.7 seconds, one of the best Section III times of the season, and was second (22.9 seconds) to WG’s Zac Karpinski (22.5 seconds) in the 200-meter dash. Turning to field events, Jared Thomson swept through the discus with a throw of 122 feet 7 inches and won the shot put by tossing it 42 feet 5 1/2 inches. Devin Mertens cleared 6 feet in the high jump, while Dillon McKee surpassed 11 feet in the pole vault and Eric Munoz needed 41 feet 3 inches to win the triple jump. The work continued on the weekend, as CNS got a preview of this week’s first-place duel with Baldwinsville at Friday’s New Hartford Invitational, held at Sauquoit Valley because the Spartans’ own track is getting replaced. The Northstars had 69 points — but the Bees finished with 71 points and gained the top spot. In the 4×200 relay, Fiume, Marlow, Ben Brown and Zach Brown won in 1:33.82, more than a second ahead of New Hartford (1:34.97). CNS also won the 4×400 as Marlow, Whritenour, Fiume and Zach Brown finished in 3:30.39, more than two seconds ahead of Corcoran. The Northstars were third in the 4×100 and fourth in both the sprint medley and 4×800, meaning it got 34 points out of the relays alone. Neumeister sped to 58.58 seconds in the 400 hurdles, but finished second to Oneida star Pat McLaughlin (57.22). Buchanan ran to second in the 3,200 in 9:51.33 as B’ville’s Shaun Thompson (9:34.96) prevailed. Dunbar ran to fourth place at 800 meters (2:03.03), as NMunoz took third in the triple jump with 42 feet 1 1/2 inches as Carl Patzer finished fifth. On Saturday, the CNS girls went to the Rome Invitational at Rome Free Academy Stadium and gained a fair share of wins, too. Thompson won the 100 hurdles in 15.2 seconds, tying her best time of the season, and went 16 feet to earn first in the long jump. She also had a third (34 feet 10 1/2 inches) in the triple jump. as the Northstars beat the field in the 4×800 in 10:07.4. Nicole Campagna, in 2:24.6, won the 800 over Whitesboro’s Kelsey Peek by 2.6 seconds, and Colburn beat the field in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:44.6 as Schuyler Cary (8:02.7) finished fourth. Watterud gained second in the 3,000 in 10:51 flat, while Langevin threw the discus 103 feet 5 inches for third place. Gina Campagna was fourth in the high jump and Stacie DeCarr earned 1,978 points in the pentathlon for her own fourth-place finish.
