Chittenango’s boys track and field team would claim both halves of last Wednesday’s OHSL Freedom division home meet against Mexico and Phoenix. In the closer of the two events, the Bears beat the Tigers 81-60, but Chittenango handled the Firebirds by a more comfortable 94-47 margin. Brian Bohne won three sprints on the Bears’ behalf, sweeping through the 100-meter dash (11.5 seconds) and 200-meter dash (23.8 seconds) before taking the 400-meter dash in 53.5 seconds. Also, Bohne helped Eric Murray, Kohia Matsute and Jason Given take the 4×400 relay in 3:47.5. Murray and Given combined with Phil Ansen and Tyler Gibb as the Bears won the 4×100 relay in 48.6 seconds. Elswehere, Bruce Gondeck earned his own pair of titles, running the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.1 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.9. Pat Gardner gave the Bears its lone win in a field event, clearing 9 feet 6 inches in the pole vault. Chittenango split its simultaneous girls meet, losing to Phoenix 77-64 while, at the same time, beating Mexico 95-46. Phoenix snagged most of the individual titles, though Alyssa Giarosso did prevail at 400 meters in 1:06.2. Brittney Tirabassi covered the 400 hurdles in 1:15.2, while Camen Hunn won the triple jump (28 feet 2 inches). Giarosso teamed with Courtney Dyer, Kristina Gorden and Meredith Furtado as the Bears won the 4×100 relay in 52.9 seconds. Dyer, Giarosso, Gorden and Kaitlin Alongi took the 4×400 relay in 4:29.3. On Friday, Chittenango hosted the annual Coaches Association Invitational, and did not just act as gracious hosts, despite the fact that Fayetteville-Manlius won both the boys and girls divisions. Bohne continued to excel in the sprints, beating the field as he won the 200-meter dash in 24.66 seconds, with J.R. Sage (F-M) second in 24.87 seconds. Also, Bohne ran to third (11.69 seconds) in the 100 and teamed with Murray, Given and Dima Tarasevich to win the 4×400 relay in 3:46.95. In the distance medley relay, Murray, Tarasevich, John Durfee and Josiah Durfee got third in 11:17.54. Gondeck emerged with a win in the boys 110-meter high hurdles, his time of 16.46 seconds just enough to hold off Watertown’s Erroll Hooker (16.63), and he cleared 5 feet 8 inches for fourth in the pole vault. As the Bears earned fifth place in the 12-team field with 53 points, Pat Gardner and John Laplante were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault, each clearing 9 feet 6 inches. Kyler Gibb was fifth (11:14.85) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Chittenango had 34 points in the girls meet, which put them in seventh place, and many of those points came in the 4×100 relay, where Gorden, Giarosso, Furtado and Dyer won in 52,87 seconds, the only runners to break 53 seconds. Dyer, on her own, achieved a victory in the 200-meter dash, posting 27.35 seconds as no other runner wen faster than 29 seconds. Tirabassi took fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:14.39). Alyssa Endres was fifth in the discus, tossing it 92 feet 8 inches, with Katrina Karbowniczak fourth in the high jump as she cleared 4 feet 6 inches. Jill Davidson was sixth.
