With a chance to move out in front of the OHSL Liberty division, the Cazenovia girls track and field team could not quite pull it off. Instead, Cazenovia split Wednesday’s three-way meet with Hannibal and Skaneateles at Buckley-Volo Field, beating the Warriors 112-28, but losing to those other Lakers 100-41.d Cazenovia still had a handful of wins, as Audrey Bowers went 15 feet 9 inches in the long jump and Paige Biviano prevailed in the triple jump, going 32 feet 2 inches. Hollie Marcelle ran to first place at 1,500 meters (5:15.6) and Megan Vanetti, in the 100-meter high hurdles, prevailed in 17.1 seconds. Skaneateles had too much depth and versatility, though, winning all three relays and double wins from the likes of Victoria Sakal (100, 200 meters) and Caroline Walton, who swept the shot put and discus. In the boys meet, it also proved to be a split. Cazenovia beat Hannibal 89-52, but lost to Skaneateles 75-66. Cazenovia only won three individual events. Joe Bono threw the discus 137 feet 8 inches, while Nico Schmidt took the 110 high hurdles in 16.7 seconds and Tim Wheeler cleared 10 feet 6 inches to win the pole vault. This followed, by a week, Cazenovia’s girls sweep of its league opener with Solvay and Jordan-Elbridge on April 22, where it beat the Bearcats 103-38 and the Eagles 96-45. Biviano, in that meet, won both the long jump (14 feet 9 inches) and 100 hurdles (17.6 seconds), with Bowers claiming first in the 100 (13.6 seconds) and 200 (28.5 seconds) sprints. Elsewhere, Marcelle needed 5:34.2 to prevail at 1,500 meters, while Piper Gianforte cleared 7 feet in the pole vault and Katie Woodworth threw the shot put 25 feet 11 1/4 inches. Ellen Burr (400 meters, 1:06.0), Meaghan Liddell (400 hurdles, 1:14.3) and Rae Tobey (3,000 meters, 12:45.8) won on the oval, too. Bowers, Gianforte, Woodworth and Meghan Morrow worked together to win the 4×100 relay in 54.5 seconds.
