By the time it gets to host Liverpool Friday night, the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team will have to feel a bit whipped from the crowded schedule it had faced in the previous three weeks. Making up for a late start to its season, the Bees to the Warriors was its eighth game in 16 days, which had let to a lot of uneven efforts. In the makeup of a snowed-out April 4 game against Cicero-North Syracuse, the Bees again slipped, taking a 12-10 loss to the Northstars. The two sides traded goals throughout a 4-4 first quarter, but when the defenses began to settle in, CNS fared better. Gradually, the Northstars (seeking to avenge a Class A quarterfinal playoff loss to B’ville in May 2008) worked its way to a 10-7 lead by the end of the third quarter, and the Bees could not quite catch up. Billy Ward still had two goals and four assists. Often, those passes when to Evan States, who had a three-goal hat trick, as Kyle Styer had a goal and three assists. Cookie Caloia, Tim Hayden and Nick Gaworecki also scored. CNS saw Zach MacNabb earn four goals, with Mike DeBottis and John Stimson adding three goals apiece. Just 24 hours later, at Central Square, the Bees needed a big effort from States to get past the Red Hawks 13-9. With States continuing to get open as Central Square’s defense honed in on Ward, B’ville worked its way to a 7-2 halftime lead. Every time the Red Hawks would try and rally in the second half, the Bees would answer. States finished with seven goals, adding an assist, and Ward, despite all the attention, still had two goals and three assists. Gaworecki had two goals and two assists, with Styer and Dom Darcangelo each scoring once. Colin Kaval, Louis Eron and Alex Gallor each had one assist. Jon Van Orden led Central Square with three goals.
