Following a rainout last Monday at Fulton, the East Syracuse-Minoa baseball team’s patience would prove rewarding in last Tuesday’s game against Chittenango, as an early deficit turned into a 12-4 win over the Bears. Chittenango got all its runs in the first two innings as starting pitcher Pat McGinnis hit a two-run home run off his counterpart, Brandon Lansing. Yet Lansing settled down, combining with Bobby Worden to blank the Bears the rest of the way and setting the stage for ESM’s late assault. In the bottom of the fifth, the Spartans got to McGinnis and two other Chittenango pitchers, scoring six times in that frame and earning five more runs in the sixth inning. Chris Banaszek led the rally with four RBIs. Jake Curtis doubled twice and drove in three runs, while Neil Delaney also got a pair of doubles. Worden, James Russo and Nick Eisenbeck each had one RBI. On the road Friday afternoon, the Spartans faced Cortland after Thursday’s game with Mexico got postponed and moved to May 2. Here, ESM took a 5-3 defeat, surrendering a 2-0 advantage when the Purple Tigers hit Worden and Delaney for all five of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. All this happened despite a huge display of power from Curtis, who hit a home run, doubled twice and finished with two RBIs. Joe Greco also drove in a run.
