As the week commenced, the Northstars went to Corcoran, where it stayed close for a long while before the Cougars got away late and prevailed by a score of 14-8. Led by the trio of James Cathers, Edmund Cathers and James Eccles, Corcoran had started 6-1, its only defeat coming April 9 against Liverpool when the Cathers brothers and goalie Ben Crenshaw all missed the game. Down 2-0 early, CNS tied it, 2-2, before Corcoran reeled off a 5-1 run to take charge. Making its own stand, the Northstars fought back and were within three, 8-5, at the break. Mike DeBottis scored early in the third quarter to make it 8-6, and CNS had many chances to pull closer, but got shut out the rest of the period. That proved to be the turning point, as Eccles and Edmund Cathers scored in a 50-second span late in the quarter to make it 10-6, and got away in the homestretch. DeBottis, in defeat, had four goals, while Nic Heldt earned a goal and three assists. Robbie Ashlaw, Nick Russo and Sean McCaffery also scored, with Anthony Puma making 12 saves in the net. Corcoran had Eccles get five goals and one assist, Edmund Cathers four goals and James Cathers three goals and four assists. A pair of one-sided wins would follow, starting on Thursday when the Northstars nearly blanked Nottingham in a 15-1 romp. CNS scored at least four times in each period. Ashlaw, with four goals and two assists, set the pace as DeBottis got three goals and McCaffery earned two goals and two assists. Heldt had a goal and four assists as Russo, John Stimson and Nick Russo notched one goal apiece. The Northstars (6-3) would get another chance to knock off a big-name foe on Friday night, when it hosts Auburn.
