Both of Morrisville-Eaton’s track and field teams found some kind of success during last Friday’s 28th annual Ryan Wells Memorial Madison County Championships, held at Canastota High School. The Warriors had 92 points on the boys side, earning third place behind the host Raiders (201 points) and Oneida, who took second with 185 points. Jarrod Kent and Joe VanDee were 1-2 in the 100-meter dash as Kent, in a time of 11.7 seconds, edged VanDee by one-tenth of a second. They also helped M-E finish second in the 4×100 relay (46.2 seconds) and third in the 4×400 relay in 4:01.8. Austin Hirsch would beat the field in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the only guy in the field to break the 12-minute mark as he won in 11:52.3, more than 12 seconds ahead of Canastota’s Zack Szkolnick. Shane Carroll was second in the javelin with a toss of 112 feet 2 inches and Shane Marris was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.4. M-E’s girls team had 88 points and finished fourth at the Madison County meet, as Emily Sherwood got second in both the 100 (13.9 seconds) and 200 (28.2 seconds), just behind Cazenovia’s Audrey Bowers in both events. Leah Morris earned second in the shot put, tossing it 24 feet 10 1/4 inches, while Kim Horton cleared 4 feet 8 inches for second in the high jump. M-E was third in both the 4×100 relay (57.1 seconds) and 4×400 relay (4:33.7).
