Both the Jamesville-DeWitt and Christian Brothers Academy boys tennis teams had to fight through some close matches Tuesday as league competition got underway. J-D, in the OHSL Freedom division, had to battle Fulton to the end before taking a 4-3 victory over the Red Raiders. Jake Weisenthal led a 3-1 singles effort, beating Adam Doherty 6-3, 6-0, while Gorav Simlote routed Derek Bateman 6-1, 6-2 and Erik Davis shut out Adam Wolford 6-0, 6-0. Cooper White had a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 loss to Jake West. In doubles, Jeff Cox and Cam Sylvia got the clinching point, beating Anthony DeGelorm and Adam Gaido 6-3, 6-4. In three sets, Jack Alexander and Dennis Zhou fell to Pat Pensabene and Jimmy Evans 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). CBA, in the OHSL Liberty division, went up against Skaneateles and won by a score of 3-2, based entirely on the strength of its singles players. Josh Mulligan swept past Branan Legg 6-0, 6-0, just as Matt Nardella was handling Tyler Wilcox 6-2, 6-1 and Colin Nardella beat Joey Robinson 7-5, 6-3. In doubles, Alex Ojugbeli and Alex Martino fell to Jon Mushock and Ethan Wilcox 6-2, 7-5.
