Brimming with confidence after a 2-0 start, the Liverpool baseball team took its show south for its annual spring-break venture in Myrtle Beach, S.C. In its opener on April 13, the Warriors faced Westerville (Ohio) and used one big inning to push itself to a 3-2 victory. Trailing 1-0, Liverpool struck for all of its runs in the top of the third inning. Matt O’Kipney doubled and earned an RBI, while Tom Everson bashed a triple. From there, O’Kipney and Pat Brown combined to hold Westerville to a single run the rest of the way and just one hit overall. O’Kipney got credit for the win. It turned around on Tuesday, as the Warriors lost to St. Edwards (Ohio) 10-0. A six-run third inning caused most of the damage as Cory Folk took the loss, with Joe Riley pitching in relief. Liverpool had just three hits all afternoon. Liverpool quickly shrugged that off, ripping Enka (Virginia) 12-2 in a game where an eight-run second inning gave the Warriors early control. David Piraino picked up three RBIs, with Mike Parsons and Shawn Peake each driving in two runs. James Wright and Alex Klymkow earned one RBI apiece as Vince Valentino pitched a complete-game five-hitter. Pat Brown got the start against Granby (Virginia) and went most of the way during a 5-2 victory, working for six innings before MIke Weakley came in to earn the save. Again, the Warriors struck quickly, with three runs in the top of the first inning. Peake doubled and earned two RBIs, while Parsons also doubled. The week concluded with Liverpool absorbing a 5-0 loss to St. Edward’s, from Ohio. Joe Riley pitched and took the loss, giving up runs in four of the first five innings as James Wright worked in relief. With a generally successful trip behind them, Liverpool returned to Central New York, set to face Fayetteville-Manlius on Tuesday, Corcoran on Thursday and Rome Free Academy on Saturday.
