Every bit of the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field team’s talent and determination was required to maintain a league win streak that dates back to 2001. The Northstars’ 41st win in a row, a 73-67 decision over Utica Proctor, was in question most of the way, right up to the closing event, the 4×400 relay. Brooke Binion, Katie Kennedy, Chelsea Davidson and Nicole Campagna ran the legs, with Campagna holding off Proctor in the last 400 meters as CNS won in 4:20.1 and kept the streak alive. Already in the meet, the Northstars had swept the distance runs. Katie Laris prevailed at 800 meters (2:39), while Christina Sakowski claimed the 1,500-meter run (5:33) and Michaela Donabella ran 3,000 meters in 12:24. Laris also teamed with Sarah Lounsbury, Lindsay Raulli and Taylor Wendler to take the 4×800 relay (10:55). Elsewhere, Jasmine Thompson tok the 100-meter high hurdles (15.2 seconds), while Valerie Langevin took the shot put by tossing it 31 feet 5 inches. Proctor had two different athletes win three individual events. Geanitta McClain prevailed in the 100-meter dash (12.5 seconds), 200-meter dash (26.2 seconds) and long jump (17 feet 5 inches), while Skykiera Hayward took the 400-meter dash (1:03.5), 400 hurdles (1:00.5) and high jump (5 feet 2 inches). Back home at Bragman Stadium, the CNS boys team had an easier time of it, beating Proctor by a score of 96-45. Chris Buchanan ran to victory in both the mile (4:42.3) and 3,200-meter run (10:24.2), while Eric Sykora cleared 12 feet in the pole vault, just ahead of teammates Dillon McKee (11 feet 6 inches) and Brendan Ryan (10 feet 6 inches). In sprints, Mike Fiume took the 200-meter dash (23.1 seconds) and Tony Rogers earned the 400-meter title in 51.1 seconds. Alex Neumeister sped to a win in the 400 hurdles in 59.7 seconds. Jordan Thompson threw the shot put 44 feet 6 inches, as Jared Thomson emerged to win the discus, tossing it 122 feet to beat Thompson (116 feet 5 inches). Kevin McCarthy cleared 6 feet and won the high jump. In the 4×400 relay, Neumeister, Fiume, Brandon Marlow and Jake Whritenour ran to a time of 3:38.9 to complete a sweep of the three events. Matt Perkins, Wes Kufel, Ryan Thomas and Jason Tuori prevailed in the 4×800 (8:52.7), while Malik Merritt, Ben Brown, Vince St. James and Artie Cooper took the 4×100 in 44.9 seconds. CNS brought its girls team to Saturday’s Jordan-Elbridge Invitational for more work, and had a series of high finishes. Raulli and Marissa Colborn went 1-2 in the 1,500, as Raulli won in 5:00.7 and Colborn was second, six seconds behind. Wendler (10:52.6) and Nicole Watterud (11:14.0) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000. Katie Osborne won the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.4 seconds, while Davidson claimed second in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.8. Langevin threw the shot put 31 feet 2 3/4 inches for third place as CNS took third in the 4×400 relay (4:28.0) and fourth in the 4×800 (10:37.6).
