In all, the West Genesee girls lacrosse team got four days of rest, plenty of time to absorb the fact that its 52-game win streak was over. Yet once the Wildcats took that 9-8 defeat to Baldwinsville on April 9, a large, yet invisible, weight lifted off — and now it could go back to just practicing, playing and improving itself for the bigger battles ahead. WG returned to the field last Tuesday against Liverpool at Solvay’s Earl Hadley Stadium, still the Warriors’ temporary field until its own turf is replaced, and won by a score of 16-8 in the second match between the two sides in 11 days. Having already won over Liverpool n Camillus on April 4, the Wildcats used steady play to take charge of the rematch, building an 8-4 halftime lead and continuing that work in the second half, preventing any kind of Warrior charge. Morgan Corso had a season-best four goals and two assists. Karlyn Tupper backed up her pair of goals with three assists as Maria DiFato, Bridget Alberts, Kellyn Savage and Lauren Michaels each matched that two-goal output. Katey Hart had a goal and three assists, with Bre Hudgins getting one goal and one assist. Sarah Brown picked up an assist, too. Liverpool, in defeat, saw Jennifer VanderMeulen lead the way with three goals. On Thursday, a high-profile tournament in Camillus kicks off, with the Wildcats facing defending Class B champion Carthage, and it continues Saturday when national power Mount Hebron pays a visit.
