With high ambition and plenty of talent back, the East Syracuse-Minoa girls lacrosse team got off to an ideal start. The Spartans visited Sunnycrest Field for last Friday night’s season opener against the combined Henninger/Nottingham entry and rolled past the Black Knights 13-2. ESM controlled most of the draws and kept the ball in Henninger/Nottingham’s end all through the first half, resulting in lots of pressure and a series of goals. By the time they reached the break, the Spartans already had a 9-0 edge, and could afford to cruise through the second half without a serious challenge. A pair of proven veterans, Gina Campese and Allyson Rossi, led ESM’s attack, earning four goals apiece. Right behind them, Alyssa Anderalli had three goals, with Carissa Ficarro adding a goal and two assists. Lauren Greiner also scored. The Spartans continued its early-season work at Westhill on Monday, followed by a trip to Marcellus on Wednesday night.
