In his final State of the City address last night, Syracuse Mayor Matthew J. Driscoll effectively wrapped up eight years of accomplishments and pointed to the city’s future with a promise of a property tax freeze and new construction and development. During a more humorous moment, Driscoll paused to reflect on a political cartoon which featured himself as the Scarecrow, Gov. David A. Paterson as the Cowardly Lion and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the Tin Man from “The Wizard of Oz”. “No, I don’t think I’ve taken it far enough,” Driscoll responded to the cartoon’s chide that Syracuse’s nickname “The Emerald City,” may have gone too far.
