A string of fine performances marked the Baldwinsville indoor track and field team’s last-ever trip to Manley Field House. Following four-plus decades of service for indoor track and basketball, Manley is being overhauled and turned into a Syracuse University athletic practice facility. Before they left, though, the indoor track stars had to go through last Friday night’s State Qualifier, where B’ville earned some invitations to this Saturday’s state meet at Cornell University. Danae Polsin came through in the girls 3,000-meter run. Chasing Jamesville-DeWitt’s Eileen Cody most of the way, Polsin passed Cody down the stretch and won in a time of 10:52.85. Cody was second in 10:53.17. Nicole Fecco was fifth in the 600-meter run in 1:44.12, and she teamed with Jaimee Balloni, Kylie Mosher and R.C. Cunningham for fourth in the 4×400 relay in 4:14.18. Cathleen Green got third place in the long jump, going 16 feet 7 1/4 inches, while also landing fourth in the triple jump in 33 feet 7 3/4 inches. In the boys State Qualifier, Sean Bernstein, Tim Hayden, Kyle Rogers and Jeff Pond dominated the 4×200 relay, winning in a time of 1:34.24, more than two seconds ahead of Corcoran. Bernstein, on his won, qualified for the 55-meter dash at Cornell, his time of 6.68 seconds enough to beat the standard of 6.74, even though he finished third to Greg Spears (Henninger) and Anthony DeJean (Rome Free Academy). Brian Kane cleared 6 feet 4 inches in the high jump, getting second place and exactly meeting the qualifying standards. Shaun Thompson was third in the 3,200-meter run in 9:47.82, Once the state meet is over, Polsin will join Balloni, Fecco, Cunningham, Ashley Shaheen and Kristina Sprague for an appearance at the March 14-15 Nike National Indoor Meet. They will run in the distance medley relay.
