Liverpool wrestler Tyler Eason led his team’s hard effort during Sunday’s Section III Division I (large school) championship meet at Utica Memorial Auditorium. Eason began as the no. 4 seed at 152 pounds. Following a first-round bye, he met Chris Woods (Fulton) and won a 7-2 decision, then ran head-on into top seed Jacob Burke (Mexico) in the semifinals and lost by a score of 12-2. Pushed into the consolation bracket, Eason beat Solvay’s Mike Warne in an exciting 12-9 match, then won the third-place match when Stefano Iodice (Rome Free Academy) got disqualified. Elsewhere for the Warriors, Jon Miller earned fifth place at 189 pounds. He started as the no. 6 seed, pinning Gavin Campbell (Mexico) in 1:30 before a narrow 2-1 quarterfinal defeat to Oswego’s Shane Bartrum. Miller would beat Cody Hartman (Cortland) in the consolation bracket and, in the fifth-place match, beat RFA’s Matt Leggett 7-2. J0e Pizzuto (171 pounds), who beat Jordan MacDonald (Fayetteville-Manlius) with a second-period pin, also beat Fulton’s Mike Connors 4-2 in overtime and took sixth place. Tyler Eason, at 112 pounds, lost a tough first-round match to Connor Grome (West Genesee) 11-9 in overtime. Justin Thompson (119 pounds) lost in the first round, as did Tyler Kolbasook at 125 pounds.
