Each of the area’s indoor track and field teams made the pilgrimage to Manley Field House one more time for a Section III championship meet. Going first, the girls competed last Monday night as Westhill put up 39 points for fifth place in the Class B ranks. Bishop Ludden (22 points) edged out Solvay (21 points) for sixth place. CBA won the division with 137 points. Westhill got lots of points in relays, as Katie Powers, Catherine Coon, Lissa DiPaola and Katie Lenkiewicz got third place in the 4×800 (10:40.60). Brenna Rainone, Mackenzie Rainone, Briana Newman and Nicole Veit were fourth in the 4×200 relay in 2:00.16, with the Warriors also fourth in the 4×400 in 4:30.16 as Powers, Newman, Veit and Meg Dwyer took part. DiPaola, on her own, finished third at 1,000 meters (3:16.18), while Paula Sanz helped Westhill with a third-place pole vault clearance of 7 feet 6 inches. Rebecca Balduzzi was third in the 55-meter dash (7.82 seconds) and fourth in the 300-meter dash (44.23 seconds). Maggie Klassen gave the Bearcats a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 6 inches. while Kaitlyn Perotti went 27 feet 3 3/4 inches for sixth place in the triple jump. Ludden’s Melissa Buttner won the 1,500-meter run, her time of 5:12.80 beating the field as Powers (5:29.47) took fifth place on Westhill’s behalf. Jessica Curry gained second place in the 3,000-meter run (11:13.56) as Coon was fourth (11:54.76) and Warrior teammate Susan Lopez took fifth place. Kim Black was fourth in the 1,000 in 3:19.56. Up in Class AA, West Genesee had 23 points, earning eighth place in a 13-team field where Cicero-North Syracuse won big with 109 points. Katie Bott had eight points from finishing second in the 800-meter run in 1:42.28, just behind Jessica Marini (Fayetteville-Manlius), who won in 1:41.57. Bott was also third in the 300-meter dash in 43.42 seconds. In the 4×800 relay, Collen Smith, Alex Incaudo, Kristin Waters and Amy Hannahan took third place in 10:34.08. On her own, Smith was sixth at 1,000 meters (3:23.77) as she teamed with Bott, Waters and Kayla Murphy for fifth in the 4×400 relay in 4:21.76.
