With a long, continuous string of first-place finishes, the Jamesville-DeWitt and Christian Brothers Academy girls indoor track and field teams both earned Section III championships in their respective classes Monday night at Manley Field House. All the Red Rams did in Class A was pick up 142 points, well ahead of New Hartford, who was second with 93 points. Meanwhile, in Class B, the Brothers left rival Skaneateles behind, picking up 137 points to outdistance the Lakers, who got second with 95 points. Eileen Cody began J-D’s winning trend when she took the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10 minutes, 48.15 seconds, just ahead of New Hartford’s Savannah Boucher (10:52.94). Later, in the 1,500-meter run, Cody needed 5:09.83 to win again. In the 600-meter run, Grace Bradshaw glided into second place in 1:46.24. Paige Morrow was third in the 1,000-meter run in 3:19.71 as the Spartans’ Erin Evke won 3:19.36. Linsay Royer (44.51 seconds) and Natalie Mannion (45.02 seconds) earned second and third, respectively, in the 300-meter dash. Marae Tearney was second in the 55-meter dash in 7.63 seconds, with Royer fifth in 8.11 seconds. J-D nearly swept the relays. Royer, Mannion, Tearney and Amanda Tan won the 4×200 in a time of 1:52.70 after Bradshaw, Morrow, Cody and Avery Share took the 4×800 in 10:29.77. Rebecca Doss, Mina Huckins, Jennifer Legaspi and Shelby Weinstein got third in the 4×400 relay with a clocking of 4:43.83. It continued in field events, where Marisa Colavecchio cleared 8 feet 6 inches to take the pole vault and Tearney won the shot put, tossing it 33 feet 3 inches as teammate Olivia Costa (27 feet 3 inches) took third place. Tan and Bradshaw went 1-2 in the triple jump, with Tan going 32 feet 1 3/4 inches and Bradshaw 31 feet 9 inches. In the long jump, Tan took third place with 14 feet 9 inches as Mannion cleared 4 feet 8 inches for third in the high jump. As for CBA, it simply piled up points in individual distance events, starting in the 3,000, where eighth-grader Katie Brislin won in a time of 10:58.02 and Michaela Gildemeyer took third place in 11:36.76. Melissa Zajdel, a senior bound for Princeton, earned a victory in the 600-meter run in 1:41.54 as Brislin (1:44.48) finished fourth. Not content with that, Zajdel also beat the field in the 300-meter dash in 42.15 seconds, with Taylor Gait (44.22 seconds) in third place. Carol Giblin began her big day by taking the 1,000-meter run in 3:12.99 as Julia Quigley (3:21.83) got fifth place. Giblin went on to finish second in the 1,500 (5:13.55) just ahead of Rachel Zajdel, who was third in 5:16.80. Nicole SanGiacomo was second (7.77 seconds) and Gait fourth (7.84 seconds) in the 55-meter dash. Betty Etheredge joined in when she won the long jump, going 15 feet 8 1/2 inches as she also took second (33 feet 5 inches) in the triple jump. Quigley cleared 4 feet 6 inches and tied Natalie Sportelli for fourth in the high jump. CBA’s best relay finish came in the 4×800, where Brislin, Giblin, Gildemeyer and Rachel Zajdel took second place in 10:23.51. Zajdel also helped Nadine Dosa, Kathleen Kirkman and Ashley Lettney got third in the 4×400 relay in 4:30.03.
