When the Skaneateles boys basketball team goes to Marcellus on Friday night to close out its regular eason, it will head there feeling an odd mix of exhilaration and frustration, based on what had happened Monday night at Bishop Grimes. On the brink of a lopsided defeat to the red-hot Cobras, the Lakers (12-7) made a ferocious comeback and nearly finished it off before taking a 66-65 defeat. In an active first quarter, Grimes stormed in front 23-15. The Lakers halted things for a while, but the Cobras spread out its margin in the third period, leaving Skaneateles behind, 52-39, with one period to play. But in those last eight minutes, Skaneateles charged at Grimes, putting up 26 points and nearly making it all up before the Cobras held on at the end. Nick Pesarchick, with 17 points, led this rally, as Paul O’Donnell stepped up for 12 points. Kevin Rice had nine points, with Kelly Donigan (eight points) and Will Polacheck (seven points) close behind. Mike Stone led Grimes with 23 points.
