Right at the end, the Canastota girls volleyball team’s vision of an undefeated regular season got clouded up. And it was Adirondack doing the deed, as the Raiders went to Boonville last Thursday night and, after a fast start, fell to the Wildcats in four games. Going in with a 18-0 record, poised to be the top seed for the Section III Class B playoffs a few days away, Canastota appeared to be playing at its normal high level when it took the first game from Adirondack in a 25-10 romp. All that dissipated, though, when Adirondack rallied and took the second game 25-19, then fought its way through a tight third game to prevail 25-23. Trying to keep the match going, the Raiders played hard in the fourth game, but the Wildcats still closed out the match 25-21. The loss came despite Jessica Patterelli’s 16 assists and 10 kills. Sarah Willis had eight kills and nine assists, while Denae Rinaldo had nine kills and Jessica DeNova had eight kills. Julie Willis had three kills and three blocks. Adirondack had a fair share of standout performances. Mariah Sears had 22 assists and 15 digs, while Angela Stoots got 17 assists and 16 digs. Up front, Katie Dickson had 20 kills, with Suzanne Jokatys getting 13 kills and 15 digs. Jordan Rauscher picked up 22 digs and six kills, with libero Sam George beating them all with 33 digs. The Section III volleyball playoff meeting takes place Sunday, with the tournament starting on Tuesday night.
