Just at the time when the Baldwinsville ice hockey should have been streaking into February, it instead absorbed a pair of defeats and saw its record fall to 13-6-1. Those issues began on Thursday night, at Lysander Arena, when Oswego showed up and stunned the Bees 2-1. Despite a 2-7-1 league mark, the Buccaneers were ready for this test, playing B’ville to a 0-0 first-period deadlock, then moving in front 1-0 in the second period. B’ville would get on the board in the final period on Connor Bertrand’s goal, fed by Pat Briggs and Mark Bellucci, but not get back even. And all this came despite a constant wave of B’ville chances, something Oswego goalie Matt Howard thwarted with 40 saves in 41 opportunities. Two days later, the Bees met Fairport, from the Section V ranks, and again tasted defeat, falling to the Red Raiders 4-2. All game long, Fairport forward Cole Bardreau proved to be a pest, scoring once and assisting on each of the Raiders’ other three goals to keep them in front. As this was going on, B’ville fought to get back in it, as Adam Mohr scored once and assisted on Brendan Boshart’s goal. Briggs added an assist. Nick Leader had 20 saves. Trying to move up from fourth place in Division I, the Bees will visit Auburn on Tuesday and come back home Thursday night to face Ithaca, who was just coming off a win and tie over defending champion West Genesee in the previous week.
