In their second head-to-head meeting on Thursday night, the Christian Brothers Academy boys basketball team again bested East Syracuse-Minoa, this one a 72-56 decision on the Spartans’ home floor. When they first met Dec. 5, the Brothers won on a night where CBA dedicated its home court in honor of head coach Buddy Wleklinski. No such ceremony marked the rematch, but the results was just the same. Following a high-scoring first quarter, the Brothers took charge by outscoring ESM 17-7 in the second quarter, part of a 39-18 spurt through the game’s middle stages. Point guard Stefan Thompson earned 17 points to help overcome the fact that Mike Goodman made just two field goals on his way to 10 points. Pat Wiese had nine points, while Troy Bullock had seven points and Mike Kitts put up six points. In all, 11 different CBA players had field goals, a contrast to ESM’s seven. Tyler Dattmore led the Spartans with 16 points, as Ken Cannon (14 points) lagged close behind. Quadear Mike had eight points and Andy Raymond seven points. Over in the girls game between CBA and ESM, the Brothers had its way, not letting up until it had earned an 85-29 victory over the Spartans. With a steady, productive attack, the Brothers scored 27 points in the first quarter, led 46-18 by halftime and further made its point with a 24-4 third-quarter blitz. Victoria Johnson, with 17 points, led a balanced attack where Leanne Ockenden got 15 points and Michelle Damico had a career-best 14 points. Kayla Stroman (10 points) and Ellen Voorheis (eight points) also proved productive as CBA drained 10 3-pointers. ESM, in defeat, got eight points from Becky Teschler and six points from Alex Cassella.
