A fast start and a steadfast resolve served the Christian Brothers Academy girls volleyball team quite well during last Monday night’s four-game victory over its neighborhood rival, the Jamesville-DeWitt Red Rams. Each of the first two games saw the Brothers take firm control, winning by scores of 25-16 and 25-15 to suggest a sweep. And though that didn’t take place, since J-D won the third game 25-20, CBA responded well, claiming a tough fourth game 25-19 to wrap up the match. Alex Horwitch set up points for CBA with her 23 assists. Up front, Jesse Bongiovanni had 10 kills, while Lianna Artessa and Lindsay Boland each had six kills, Boland adding three aces. Megan Underwood (three kills) and Haley Hornstein (three assists) helped, too. On J-D’s side, Meredith Howe had nine kills and Ally Loewy got four kills, the passes coming from Ally Chaiken, who had 17 assists, plus four aces and two kills. Emily Parker served up three aces.
