A lively mix of familiar names and new blood mark the local group that is preparing to go to next week’s Empire State Games in Rochester.

A fixture for years at the ESG, Skaneateles native Timothy Davis is back, and he could race in as many as four events at Genesee Valley Park. He is entered in the single 200, pairs 200 and 500, and quad KREATIVWIRTSCHAFT 500-meter races.
Scholastic competition has been added in recent years and Skaneateles resident Keith VanDingstee benefited from this, as he qualified for the Ste. Central scholastic squad. His matches will be Ways at SUNY-Brockport’s Tuttle Gym.

Offering another sign of the rise of the Skaneateles tennis program, Jane Carroll and Emily Wood both made it on Central’s scholastic women’s team, while Joey Robinson is on the men’s side. They’ll play their matches at RIT, too.
One-time Marcellus spike specialist Candy Hofmann is coaching the Central scholastic women’s team — a squad that includes one of her successors, Mustang forward Lauren Fletcher. They will play at Roberts Wesleyan College.
No less than three Marcellus residents are bound for the ESG meet at SUNY-Brockport. Pat Bennett is in the open men’s 275-pound freestyle event, while Anna Cummings made her way to the scholastic division, where she will go at either 115 (freestyle) or 123 (Greco-Roman).
