Despite all of the ups and downs it had to endure, the Baldwinsville baseball team still had time to establish sustained momentum before the Section III Class AA playoffs. And it was on a two-game win streak when, on Thursday afternoon, Mike St. John stepped on the pitcher’s mound and threw a no-hitter as the Bees beat the Black Knights 10-0. Aside from one walk and one error, no one reached base against St. John, who scattered eight strikeouts during his gem. He also had quick run support as B’ville scored four runs in the first inning and added five runs in the fifth for further insurance. Josh Savacool had three of the Bees’ nine hits, while Brett Charbonneau managed two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Pat Merryweather also drove in two runs. Connor Martin and Dan Dubiel each crossed the plate twice as Martin, along with Dan Wright and Shay Sargent, earned one RBI apiece. To start the week, the Bees just needed any kind of a win, which was accomplished Tuesday afternoon when it put together a 10-2 victory over Nottingham. A three-run first inning set a positive tone, and B’ville secured the outcome by notching five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gabe Levanti went three-for-three, smashing a home run and double, scoring three runs and finishing with three RBIs. Dubiel, Martin, Merryweather and Wright also drove in runs as Savacool scored twice. Three Bees pitchers – Corey Bruce, Scott Orr and Nick Riley – combined to hold Nottingham to five hits and had six strikeouts between them as Bruce got the win. B’ville proved impressive again on Wednesday, jumping all over Central Square and cruising to a 12-1 win over the Red Hawks. By the third inning, it was already 9-1, more than enough offense for Merryweather, who only allowed four hits and struck out five in his complete-game effort. At the plate, B’ville benefited from five Central Square errors. Still, Charbonneau had four of his team’s 14 hits, including a double, while Dubiel and Wright both hit home runs. Kyle Lattanzio scored three times as Charbonneau and Kevin Roy each crossed the plate twice.
