For the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field teams to make their showdowns with Liverpool carry full meaning, they first had to get through Wednesday’s meets with Baldwinsville. And both would pull through, as at Bragman Stadium the boys Northstars toppled the Bees 92-49 and Katie Osborne led the CNS girls past B’ville 86-55 at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium. Each of the sprints in the boys meet was a battle. Ryan Connor beat teammate Andrew Johnson in the 100-meter dash, 10.8 seconds to 11.0, but Johnson turned around and edged B’ville’s Todd Mitchell in the 200-meter dash, 22.7 seconds to Mitchell’s 22.9. Kareem Lee had a busy meet, topping B’ville’s Andrew Hoover in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 14.9 seconds as he also tied Billy Werksman and Joel Brousseau in the high jump, each of them clearing 6 feet. Lee also got second in the long jump (19 feet 2 inches). Cameron Doray set a new personal mark in the shot put, throwing it 49 feet 2 1/2 inches as he got second (112 feet 10 inches) in the discus. Mike Hyde soared past 13 feet 6 inches in the pole vault as Cameron Shaughnessy cleared 12 feet 6 inches. Morgan Austen won the triple jump, going 37 feet 2 1/2 inches. On the oval, Chris Buchanan again beat rival Shaun Thompson in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:42.2, exactly 11 seconds better than Thompson. In the mile, Buchanan prevailed again in 4:34.9, with Jared Walther (4:41.9) second as Walther did take the 800-meter run in 2:01.3. Though Shawn Webb settled for second in the 400-meter dash, he did help Walther, Frank Volino and Alex Bottorff speed to first in the 4×400 in 3:35.1. Sam Nassar got second in the 400 hurdles despite a time of 59.6 seconds. That it was a bit more lopsided in the girls meet was due to a sweep of the field events, with Osborne primarily responsible. She cleared 5 feet in the high jump, went 15 feet 7 inches in the long jump, took the triple jump (33 feet 7 1/2 inches) and, to cap it off, won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.3 seconds. Lexi Thompson earned titles in the shot put (34 feet 10 1/2 inches) and discus, the latter with a season-best throw of 101 feet 4 inches. Jessica Wheeler cleared 8 feet and won the pole vault. Jackie Halstead claimed first in the 1,500-meter run in 5:00.4 and also took the 3,000-meter run in 11:10.9 as Nicole Campagna took the 800 in 2:27.4. Marissa Colburn, Katilyn Donahue, Katie Laris and Kaleigh Carroll won the 4×800 in 10:15.2. While all this was going on, Liverpool swept to easy wins over Henninger – 115-17 on the boys side, 124-17 on the girls side. Justin McGriff won the boys 110 high hurdles (16.5 seconds) and triple jump (42 feet 6 inches), while Ryan Ronk took the 100 (11.5 seconds) and long jump (20 feet 4 1/2 inches). McGriff, Ronk, Steve Fiorello and Kevin Abel claimed the 4×100 in 45.2 seconds, part of a relay sweep. Other titles went to Brandon Rudd (mile), Kameron Arnold (400), Andrew Lewis (800), Luay Ashkar (400 hurdles), Anthony Ostuni (3,200), Nick Leedom (shot put) and Zach Harris (high jump). The girls meet fell along similar lines, as Armani Moore unleashed a top long jump of 16 feet 8 1/2 inches, while Shanice Leach (34 feet 11 1/4 inches) dominated the triple jump. Tatiana Gladney was first in the shot put (31 feet 9 inches) as Meagan Turner cleared 5 feet in the high jump and Angela Kulpa cleared 8 feet 6 inches in the pole vault. Megan Earle (100 hurdles), Kaitlyn McNamara (1,500), Jessica Turner (800), Kyla Bills (3,000), Tammy Brodie (400 hurdles) and Ore Akinpelu (400 sprint) all won on the oval. Kulpa helped in the 4×100 relay (53.5 seconds) as Liverpool took the 4×400 (4:35.7) and 4×800 (11:16.9), too.
