The heavy winds and rain of Wednesday were nowhere to be seen at last night’s Starlight Tree Lighting ceremony held in the village of Marcellus. The event formally began at 6 p.m. at village point with “Jingle Bells” and “Carol of the Bells” sung by the Drive Middle School Select Choir under the direction of Kristin Peenstra. Mayor John Curtin thanked all those involved before handing the keys to his grandson, Johnny White, who lit the tree to the cheers of many. The event included a visit from Santa at the Steadman House, cookies and hot chocolate as well as cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus and Elfie at the American Legion, harpists at the Marcellus Free Library, horse-drawn hay rides and ice sculpting by Jerry Perun.
