Gloria V. (Vanderbilt) Black, 68, of Liverpool passed away due to an unexpected cardiac event on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at St Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. She was a life-long resident of the village of Liverpool. Gloria was employed as a secretary with the Liverpool Central School District for over 30 years, most recently at Liverpool Middle School. She enjoyed her career where she was lucky enough to work with people she considered treasured friends. She was a woman of faith and an active member of the Liverpool First United Methodist Church. Gloria was also a past member of the Liverpool Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Gloria graduated from Liverpool High School in 1963 where she participated in extracurricular activities including cheerleading. Gloria was social butterfly who enjoyed talking with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and “Grammy” and loved ones knew they could always depend on her. She loved to read, garden, and spend time outside. She was an avid fan of Syracuse University Sports and we know she will be watching the rest of the basketball season from above. Gloria was a wonderful cook and baker and her chocolate chip cookies, chocolate peanut butter pie and mac and cheese will be missed.
Gloria is predeceased by a sister, Lucille Beahan and two brothers; James and Curtis Vanderbilt.
Those left to remember and love her include: her high school sweetheart and husband of 49 years, Gary E. Black of Liverpool; two daughters, Christine N. Black of Liverpool, Sarah E. Black of New Orleans, LA, a granddaughter, Jordyn Striano of Liverpool; her beloved sister-and brother-in –law, Marlene and Richard “Ace” Ward of Liverpool; three sisters; Jean (Rick) Frocione of Indialantic, FL, Carol (Richard) Freeman of Cary, NC, and Barbara Rice of Key Largo, FL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and last but not least her cat, Max.
