Carolyn Carlson Hinman

Carolyn M. Carlson Hinman, a former resident of North Syracuse, died peacefully on June 15, 2014, at M. M. Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua N.Y. Born on May 6, 1925, and raised in Schenectady, she was the daughter of Ole and Marie (Christensen) Hansen. She graduated from Oneonta State College and taught in the North Syracuse School System from 1968-1988.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Linda (Paul) Edmundson of Albany, Russell (Loretta) Carlson of Bear, DE, Wesley Carlson of North Syracuse, Kenneth (Dorothy) Carlson of Cortland, Catherine (John) Carlson of Canandaigua, Shirley Carlson (Darl VanderLinden) of Spokane, WA, Lois (Timothy) Evans of Springfield, MO, stepdaughters Kathlyn (Thomas) Clasper and Susanne Hogan both of North Syracuse as well as 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Martin Hinman, and her son, William Carlson.
Carolyn loved spending time with her family, traveling, gardening and painting. She was a volunteer at CONTACT for many years and was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clay and the Cicero Senior Center. She received the Onondaga County Dept of Aging and Youth Senior Citizen of the Year award in 2004. Carolyn was a wonderful mother and a kind and generous friend to many.
Calling hours: 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main St, North Syracuse. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 4947 State Route 31, Clay. Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
