Erwin “EJ” Jewell, 89, of Liverpool, died on Sept. 20, 2013, at Francis House after a brief but brave battle with cancer.
He spent 40-plus years as a member of the Onondaga County Carpenters Union, Local 12.
Erwin served in the Pacific theatre as a first lieutenant USAF in WWII. In addition, he served many years as a volunteer firefighter with Moyers Corners Fire Department.
Preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Donald and Wesley; sisters, Helen Wright and Gladys Bednarski; great- grandson Adam Haahr; great –granddaughter Emily Jones and step-granddaughter Gina Campisi
Survived by his devoted wife of 27 years Marge (Goudy) Jewell, daughters Sharon Haahr and Roberta (Dale) Carpenter; son, Jay (Bonnie) Jewell; step-daughter Roz (Raymond) Beadle and step-son Gary Robbins, both of Dallas, TX; 5 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Also sisters Gloria Wiatrak of NC and Fern Barella of Liverpool; sister-in-law Pat Jewell of Liverpool; special nephew Greg and many other loving nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Larry Scimone and Len Richer.
Calling hours will be 4-7 PM Monday September 23, 2013 at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Route 31, Baldwinsville.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Ray Gausman of Clay Community Church with burial to follow in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
