Joseph G. Foley, 89, of Oran-Delphi Road, Manlius, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville. “Jerry” as he was known to many, was born July 16, 1924, in Syracuse to Joseph Foley and Pauline Danehy.
Jerry was raised in Perryville and graduated from Cazenovia High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Germany. He married Virginia Begent in 1944 before beginning his overseas tour. Upon his return, they bought a dairy farm in the town of Pompey where he resided 67 years.
A dairy farmer for 45 years he was also a bus driver for the Cazenovia School District for 30 years. Jerry was also a member of the Delphi Falls Fire Department, an assessor for the town of Pompey and a member of the Mohican Model A car club. He is survived by his two sons, James of Manlius and John (Mary Jane) of Cazenovia, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years Virginia in January of 2003, his brother William and his sister Virginia Donahue.
Calling hours: 4-6 p.m. Friday at the Ayer and Zimmer Funeral Home, 38 Sullivan St. Cazenovia. Private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Cazenovia. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Delphi Falls Fire Department or CAVAC.
