Gloria J. Jones, 90 of Camillus, surrounded by her family, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday Oct. 20, 2013. Mrs. Jones was a native of Schenectady and resident of Camillus since 1954. She also resided in Milford, CT and Tonawanda, N.Y. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and, as she used to say, the "College of Hard Knocks".
Mrs. Jones was a communicant of Fairmount Community Church United Church of Christ where she served as former chair of the board of trustees, superintendent of Sunday School, member of the board of facilities, nominating committee, chair of the memorial fund, member of Circle C and Women's Fellowship.
Mrs. Jones worked at Key Bank in Syracuse from 1954-1957 as secretary to the vice president. She served the town of Camillus for 26 years, serving as clerk to the planning board, clerk to the assessor, deputy town clerk and for 16 years as Camillus town clerk from which she retired in 1989. She was past president of the Onondaga County Town Clerks' Association and a director of the New York State Town Clerks' Association. Active in politics, she was a member of the Onondaga County Republican Committee, Town of Camillus Republican Committee, Camillus Women's Republican Club and the Camillus Republican Club where she served as president from 1987-88, the first and only woman to serve in that capacity.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Camillus Business-Professional Women's Club, former director of Fairmount Gardens Senior Citizen Housing, member of the Camillus Historical Society, parent supporter of the West Genesee Wildcat Marching Band and an avid Syracuse basketball and football fan. She was also past secretary of the WG Terrace Homeowners' Association and past secretary of the Sherwood Knolls Homeowners' Association.
Mrs. Jones was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 71 years. She was past matron of Camillus Chapter #438 and served as grand representative to Vermont in 1981. Most recently, she was a member of Morning Star Chapter #289 and Ilderim Temple No 15, Daughters of the Nile.
Mrs. Jones's honors include Camillus Business-Professional Women's Club 1985 Woman of the Year; Onondaga Republican Committee 1987 Person of the Year; Sibley's Department Store 1987 Professional Woman of the Year; 1987 Mrs. Republican of Camillus; 1989 Town Clerk of the Year from the NYS Town Clerks' Association; 1991 Camillus Citizen of the Year on behalf of the Camillus Elks #2368.

Mrs. Jones was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Grace Pangburn of Schenectady; sisters, Vivian Ballard and Gwendolyn Hokirk, both of Schenectady; her husband, Roy, in April of 1979, and son, Robert, in December of 2011.
Surviving are her daughter, Kandyce (Jack) Daley of Onondaga Hill, daughter-in-law, Helena Jones of Syracuse; grandchildren, Alan Jones of Manlius and Sarah Jones of Syracuse; great-grand daughter, Aliyah Nicole Jones of Manlius; and niece, Gayle (David) Brown of Schenectady.
Relatives and friends called from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. An Eastern Star service was held at 3:30 p.m.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at at Fairmount Community Church United Church of Christ with Rev. Gary Ferner officiating. Gloria was laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Camillus.
