John Patrick Roach, 79, of Clay passed away on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013. He was a Syracuse native who, in his youth, enjoyed caddying at Sunnycrest Golf Course. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy on DD-537 USS The Sullivans as a torpedo man. In 1997, he retired from UPS after 37 years as a teamster and tractor trailer tandem driver.
He loved and spoiled his grandchildren.
His wife of 43 years, the former Jean Pinkowski predeceased him on May 13, 2004
Surviving are his children, John P. Roach, Jr. and Maureen J. (Damian Roberts) Sammon; grandchildren, Patrick, Kathleen and Brianna Sammon; eight siblings, Nonie, Helen, Nancy, Dee, Peggy, Bill, Mike and Jim.
Services: 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Fergerson Funeral Home with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial with military honors will follow in North Syracuse Cemetery. Calling hours: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at the funeral home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse.
