Dick Lavner, 78, of Cazenovia, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013. He retired from Allied Chemical in 1985 after 26 years. Dick was an Air Force veteran having served during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion in Manlius. He was an outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish and even spent time panning gold out west. Dick always had a beagle by his side while admiring nature. He played bingo and pitch, and enjoyed listening to music, especially county western. Dick was always good for a joke, and had several sayings, “he never met a man that he didn’t like”, and “it never hurts to smile”.
Survivors: His wife of 54 years, Joan Shoemaker Lavner; a daughter, Laura Siros of Syracuse; son, Michael Scott (Debbie) Lavner of Oswego; three grandchildren, Morgan Nicole, Dylan Richard and Ryan Michael Lavner as well as several nieces, nephews and special cousins, Mary, Sandy, Jim, Jeanne and Melynda. Dick is also survived by his father-in-law Geroge J. Louzek; brother-in-law, James M. Shoemaker, Jr.; sister-in-law, Kathleen Louzek, He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Flora Lavner.
