Lucia “Lu” Champagne, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday May 23, 2013 at the age of 70. Lu was born on Monday, May 25, 1942 in Fulton to Catherine (Cincotta) and Orazio Lanzafame. She lived her life in Fulton with her two brothers, Tudy and Tom Lanzafame, until she moved to Albany to attend The College of Saint Rose. She obtained a degree in elementary education and worked as a teacher for 20 years. The majority of her teaching years were spent at Long Branch Elementary in Liverpool with third grade being her favorite level.
Lu took a leave from teaching for several years to raise her three children. In her decade of retirement, she enjoyed all of her hobbies, including cooking, baking, reading and tending to her home. Additionally, she loved spending time with her friends and family which, much to her delight, came to include four grandchildren. To all of those that knew her, Lu was an extraordinarily kind, caring, loving and cheerful person.
Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Brad; daughter, Jackie Miller and husband Doug of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; son, Brad/B. Jay and wife Christina Champagne of Shaker Heights, Ohio; daughter, Jill and husband Thinesh Dahanayake of Mystic, Connecticut; grandchildren, Natalie, Sarah, Alexander and Julian; brother Tudy of Fulton; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for relatives and friends were Sunday, May 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services were private.
