Charles B. Godbout

Charles B. Godbout, 88, passed away on April 16, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Avis, and his children, Blake J. Godbout, Esq. of Winchester, MA, Dr. Brett P. Godbout of Bethlehem, PA, Scott M. Godbout of Norfolk, VA, and Mary A. Thompson of Saco, ME, and eight grandchildren.
Charles was born in Whitehall, N.Y., in 1925 the youngest of four children of Burdett and Cora Godbout. The family moved to Suffern, N.Y., in 1931. Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and became an officer in the Naval Air Corps. In 1950 he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a mechanical engineer. That same year Charles married Avis Yatto and joined Carrier International Corp. The Godbouts resided in Hartsdale, N.Y. until 1971 when they relocated to Skaneateles.
As director of Carrier's International Refrigeration division, Charles was at the forefront of the use of industrial refrigeration on the international level. He was a leader to his worldwide team and respected for his integrity and creativity.
After 34 years at Carrier, Charles and Avis retired to Dublin, NH, where they spent 23 years, Charles was a volunteer driver for Jaffrey Adult Daycare and a longstanding member of St. Peter's Parish of Peterborough where he served as a Knight of Columbus.
Charles was a private pilot, an avid skier and golfer, and a devoted garden enthusiast. His beautiful landscape creations were a delight to all his family and friends.
Funeral mass: 11 a.m. May 15 at St. Peter's Church, Peterborough, N.H., with burial to follow. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Peter's Church Building Fund , Peterborough, N.H., or to a charity of one's choice.
