Robert Edward Smith, 90, of Fairmount, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Auburn Community Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Tuesday, November 21, 1922, he was the son of Edward J. Smith and Hazel H. (Hovey) Smith. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School and lived in Fairmount since 1957 and was an Army veteran of WWII.
Robert retired in 1984 from the NY Telephone Co. after 37 years. A communicant of Holy Family Church, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and also enjoyed camping, bowling, golfing, traveling and spending time with his family.
Robert was predeceased by his wife, the former Rosemary Catherine Deal, on 11/11/2010.
Surviving are his daughters and son-in-law, Sharon Hall of Breezy Point, Minnesota, and Shelley and Scott Brim of Jordan; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Nancy of Syracuse, Barry and Doreen of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Gerry "Jay" and Vicki of Camillus; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15, in Holy Family Church with Rev. Richard P. Prior Jr. officiating. Entombment followed in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
