Irene S. Rogers

Irene S. Rogers, 87, life resident of South Onondaga, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Van Duyn Nursing Home. Irene was a 1942 graduate of Onondaga Central High School and was the daughter of the late Bennie E. and Ruth A. (Fenner) Rogers.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1946 and her Master's of Science degree in 1952 both from Syracuse University. Irene retired in 1986 as the vice president of operations at New York Telephone after 40 years of loyal service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and Past Matron of the Marcellus Morning Star Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Irene was a world traveler and frequented places like Tahiti, Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand, and Alaska. She was a large supporter of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and of the local SPCA in Mattydale. Irene followed S.U. Football feverishly and loved her flower garden. She was a member of South Onondaga Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Irene was predeceased by her sisters, Edith Rogers and Elizabeth Thompson, and by two brothers-in-law, Norman E. Hutton and Stafford Thompson.
Surviving are her sister, Esther N. Hutton of East Syracuse; her nephew, Norman (Linda) Hutton of Franklin Lakes, NJ; and by a niece Natalie (Roger Greenwold) Kennel of San Diego, CA.

Calling hours: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a 6 p.m. funeral service following. Spring Burial will be in South Onondaga Cemetery.
