Dorothy V. VanSlyke, 93, of Cicero, died Friday, March 1, 2013 evening at St. Joseph's Hospital of congestive heart failure. Born in West Virginia, she was a life long New York resident.
She had worked in the Better Dress Department of E. W. Edwards, in management in Hall & McChesney's microfiche department and retired from the computer tax reporting department of Dyna Tax in the mid 1980s.
She enjoyed camping and snowmobile riding and, as a young lady, was an accomplished equestrian. She loved to garden, tending to the humming birds and totally loved her grandchildren.
Her husband of 67 years, Donald C. "Whitey" VanSlyke predeceased her on June 7, 2006.
Surviving are her children, Joan Fineberg and David VanSlyke; a sister-in-law, Ruth Young; four grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Michael) Meyer, Jeffrey (Dina) Domachowski, Chad VanSlyke and Cole VanSlyke; three step-grandchildren, Jami M. Fineberg, Eric M. (Robyn) Fineberg and Alison B. (David Pauldine) Fineberg; six step great-grandchildren, Leah Greene, Carly Volante, Lani Fineberg, Marni Fineberg, Rachel Fineberg and Zachary Fineberg; a step great-great-granddaughter; a niece and several nephews.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Fergerson Funeral Home with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 4, at the funeral home, 215 South Main St., North Syracuse. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
