Janice K. George, 98, of Skaneateles died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, March 2, 2013. She was born May 18, 1914 in Auburn to Laura and Harold Knight. She is predeceased by her brother, Albert.
Janice grew up and graduated high school in Auburn. After graduating from Mount Holyoke College (1936), she worked in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
She was a full-time mother to her two beloved daughters, Patti and Nancy, for more than twenty years. She then returned to school to earn her Masters Degree in Education and taught second grade for ten years in Marcellus Central Schools.
Janice enjoyed playing bridge and other card games; was an avid reader; traveled extensively to 26 countries; and spent over 30 years volunteering at the Skaneateles Library. She lived life to the fullest and especially liked getting together with her family and close friends, including Alice Hines and Charlotte Burbank.
Of all her life’s accomplishments, Janice was most proud of her family. She is survived by her daughters Patricia G. McMillan of Syracuse and Nancy K. Grau (Robert) of Berea, Ohio; grandchildren Lynne Marie S. Jones (Michael), Robert D. Scolaro (Michelle), Cynthia Akers (Scott) and Michelle Schuster (Robert); and 12 great-grandchildren Packy, Mitchell, Connor, Riley and Tynan Jones, Helaina and Reide Scolaro, Evan, Ryan, Blake and Paige Akers, and Bradley Schuster.
Calling hours: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Robert D.
