Carol Virginia Young Murray, 84, of The Villages, FL, died peacefully the evening of Feb. 22, 2013. Born in Redwood, N.Y., she grew up in LaFargeville, N.Y., and graduated from Syracuse University’s Nursing Program in 1950.
Carol was married to Theodore Robert Young in 1950, and they became a lively part of the “Green-Acres” gang until his sudden death in 1976. Carol worked at Hutchings Psychiatric Center until she went back to school and obtained her master’s degree in psychiatric nursing in 1980. Her gentleness touched the many lives of those she cared for in the Syracuse area.
Carol married David Murray in 1984, living in Washington, D.C., until moving back to her hometown, where she worked as an EAP counselor in Watertown and became active in her local Methodist Church. Carol and her husband relocated to The Villages, FL, in 2009, where she enjoyed the sun, new friends and eventually noodling in the pool.
Survivors are husband David A. Murray, The Villages, FL, her children; Patricia Young, Gretchen Young (Andrew Whittle) and Wendy Young (Jim Whinfield), who will miss her dearly and will remember her quick wit, sweet smile and springerle. She was a dear grandmother to Adam, Micah, Jess and Jordan Weber, and Julia and Samantha Whittle. Carol is survived by two brothers and four sisters-in-law; Roy and Peggy White of Owego, N.Y., Earl and Irene White of North Syracuse, Louise White of Clayton, N.Y. and Sase Gaebel of Lady Lake, FL. Carol is predeceased by her son, Theodore Robert Young, Jr., and her brother Theodore White.
A burial service will be held in Syracuse in the spring. Please contact family members for details. Donations in her memory may be made to your local Alzheimer’s Organization.
