Beverly Burkett Whitbread, 80, of Jamesville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at home, surrounded by her loving family. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, she was born on Monday, April 25, 1932 and was a graduate of St. Anthony's Catholic School. She worked for the New York Telephone Co. before becoming a full-time homemaker.
A loving mother and grandmother, Beverly was devoted to her family. She was a faithful communicant of St. Mary's Church in Jamesville for over 50 years and a member of its Altar & Rosary Society. She currently was a communicant of St. James Church and also enjoyed needlework, gardening, reading and traveling with her husband, especially to the Adirondacks and Vermont.
Beverly was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Margaret (Roberts) Burkett; and brother, Albert Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, James; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Hepp of DeWitt, Kathleen and Douglas Welch of Orlando, Florida, Susan Whitbread of Manlius and Mary and Bernard Tone of Marcellus; sister-in-law, Norma Burkett of Liverpool; grandchildren, Stephanie Carbone, Emily Salgado, Megan Evans, Kelly Fernandez, Jennifer Welch, and Margaret, Joseph and William Tone; great-grandson, Ramon Fernandez; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends called Thursday, February 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services were at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22 at the funeral home and 10 a.m. in St. James Church, Syracuse where Rev. John Manno celebrated a funeral Mass. Beverly was laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central New York, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
