Peter R. Wilberg

Peter R. Wilberg, 66, of Sanford passed on July 2, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital.
He was born on July 31, 1946, in the Grape Belt of Western New York with his three brothers, Edward, George and John and one sister Patricia. After the early death of his mother he played a major part in raising Patricia and John while he worked the farm and also worked his way through The State University of New York at Fredonia. He had many outstanding years and awards for his teaching abilities and community services, including a special citizenship award by the city of Fredonia for his assistance in taking down a bank robber. He was a mathematics teacher in Cazenovia from 1971-2002 while also teaching at Morrisville College from 1984-2001.
He was a charter member, driver, crew captain and trainer of Cazenovia Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps from 1973-2001. Pete was a Mason and held many positions at the Masonic Lodges of Cazenovia and Morrisville. He enjoyed fishing with his children, traveling, hunting and boating and had an immense passion of collecting AMC Ramblers and Vintage Automobiles.
Before fully retiring to the Sanford Area, he had a brief return to teaching in NC. He became a member of Buffalo Masonic Lodge No. 172 and joined the Sanford Shrine Club who helps children with disabilities. He became the president of the San-Lee AACA (classic car). He was an active member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church.
Pete’s love of God, his wife, family and community ensure he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 43 years, Jean Wilberg; two sons, Phillip and Douglas; one daughter, Julie Siess; brothers, Edward, George, John and sister, Patricia Spitale; Also survived by 7 grandchildren.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 5, at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford. Funeral service: 11 a.m. on Saturday at Buffalo Presbyterian Church with a graveside service following at Buffalo Cemetery.
