Shirley Rae Stanley, 82, of Weedsport, went home to the Lord, Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. Born in Clay on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1930, she was the daughter of Martha (Baxter) and Carl Sotherden. She was a 1947 graduate of North Syracuse High School. She married her high school sweetheart, David Stanley, in 1948, and lived in Marietta for many years before moving to Weedsport in 1987.
Shirley loved the Lord, her family, nature, being near a lake, playing piano, reading and crossword puzzles. She was a church organist for 50 years, a choir member for most of her life and currently a member of the Second Baptist Church in Auburn.
Shirley was predeceased by her brother, Carl; and sister, Audrey Hawthorne.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, David; sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas B. and Conie of Washington and Robert C. of Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela R. and Wayne Kenyon of Red Creek; brother, Ronald Sotherden of Ohio; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen Sotherden; brother-in-law, Hugh Hawthorne; one niece; eight nephews; many great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.
There were no calling hours. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 in Second Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Hill officiating.
