Eugene C. Ernst

Eugene C. Ernst, 90, of Minoa, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at The Jewish Home. He was born in Brewster, Ohio, on Dec. 13, 1922 the son of the late Earl V. and Ida (Brutchey) Ernst. He graduated from East Syracuse High School in 1940, the National Defense Aviation School in Buffalo, the Radio Material School at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C. in 1944 and Clarkson College in 1950.
Eugene served with the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Ticonderoga Aircraft Carrier. He was an electrical engineer with General Electric for 35 years, retiring in 1985. During his career with General Electric, he worked in Alaska, California, Colorado and finally in Syracuse. He was a member of the GE Elfin Society.
Eugene was a member of the Minoa Methodist Church. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed gardening, fishing, working with stained glass, woodworking. He was a member of the championship Senior Cyclones softball team, enjoyed biking, cross country skiing, bowling and was an avid sports enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elda DaRin Ernst; two daughters, Sandra (John) Romagnoli of E. Syracuse and Bonnie G. Ernst of Palatine, IL; two sisters, Mary (William) Simmons, New Jersey and Ivon (Donald) Butman of Michigan; a brother, Donald Ernst of Minoa; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Louise Ernst.
