William J. Hayes

William J. Hayes, 83, of Syracuse, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at his home. William was a lifelong resident of Syracuse where he attended St. Vincent DePaul School. He was the son of the late William J. and Loretta A. (Longdo) Hayes.
William was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who worked for several years on the New York Central Railroad. Since then, he worked for many locations in the downtown area including Dey Brothers, the State Tower Building, the Christian Science Building and most recently as a greeter at Salina Place.
In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by a sister, Rosemary Tamkin and his brother, John E. Hayes.
William is survived by a sister-in-law, Yvonne Hayes of East Syracuse; his two nieces: Linda Stolar of Chittenango, and Sandy Everhart of Minoa; and several great nieces and nephews.
William was best known for his caring personality and his love for animals. He would have wanted contributions in his memory to be made to your local animal shelter.
Calling hours: 4-6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 from at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a funeral service following at 6 p.m. Burial: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt.
