Craig O. Baker, 89, of Wimbleton Court in East Syracuse, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Rosewood Heights Nursing Home in Syracuse. Craig was born in Syracuse and resided in the Mattydale and Radisson areas for many years before moving to East Syracuse in 2001. He was the son of the late Roy and Florence Baker.
Craig was a WWII Army veteran who served in the Pacific Theatre and also in the Guadalcanal Campaign. He retired in 1982 after 25 years as an electrician from Conrail. Craig was the past Commander of the American Legion Post #1832 and the past Onondaga Commander of the Legion. He was also a member of the Mattydale VFW Post #3146.
Craig was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Clair Baker, in 2003 and by their son, Mickey Baker, in 2000.
Surviving is his daughter: Lynn McGettigan of East Syracuse; two grandchildren, Bob and Sarah Bluman and two great grandchildren, Arianna and Orion Bluman, all of East Syracuse. Calling hours: 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale with a funeral service directly following calling hours at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
