Helen Butchko (nee Yurechko), 91, passed away in peace and tranquility Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Francis House with her loved ones at her bedside. Born and raised in Bayonne, NJ, Helen was a graduate of Bayonne High School and a life-long member of St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church. She retired from Western Electric in Kearny, NJ, as a wiring assembly operator.
After moving to Manlius in 2007 along with her late husband Chester, Helen enjoyed a happy and serene lifestyle together with her daughter’s family who is especially glad to have had the opportunity to provide her with loving care throughout the years. Always quick with a smile and easy to laugh, Helen was immediately embraced by a new circle of friends and dedicated caregivers. Her kind heart and easy-going nature made her a joy to be around. An avid animal lover, she was happiest when surrounded by her “grandcats,” Snooty and Gulliver.
An affectionate and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law, Helen was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Chester; and all seven of her siblings.
Surviving to cherish and treasure her memory are her devoted daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Paolo Amaido of Cazenovia; beloved grandson Dr. Jordan Amadio of Atlanta, GA; and son John Butchko of Bayonne, NJ; as well as numerous nieces and nephews around the country.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and the entire care staff at both Crouse 7 Memorial and at Francis House for the extraordinary care and attention given to Helen in her final weeks. Please consider making contributions in Helen’s name to Francis House, 108 Michaels Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13208. To leave a special message for the family, please visit scheppfamily.com.
