Anthony R. Jastrem, 88, of Syracuse, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Anthony, known to his many friends as Tony or AJ, was the son of Stanley and Marianna (Dembkowska) Jastremski. He graduated from Eastwood High School. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, stationed in San Diego. Following this, he worked as an electrical supervisor for New York Central Railroad, Penn Central Railroad and Contrail in East Syracuse. He served as treasurer of the Railroad Workers’ Union local chapter. AJ was an avid golfer, and an enthusiastic supporter of Syracuse University athletics. He was a lifelong communicant of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church of Syracuse, where he served as an usher, altar server and maintained the church’s electrical system. He will be remembered and cherished for his generosity, warmth, kindness and gentle wit.
Anthony is survived by his wife Alice, his daughter Karen (Ken) Kirkman, his three grandchildren, Kenny, Matthew and Kathleen, his sister Janina Pieklik and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother John Jarmacz and his sisters Catherine, Frances, and Sister Joseph Anne.
Calling hours: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St. Fayetteville. Mass of Christian burial: 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dece. 21, Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church.
